Beginning of Technology
By Bruno Georget – Insomniac Games has been working for a long time on the ultimate Spider-Man game. We dream of it. The criticism is coming, but first of all, remember the best Spidey games. The technology has changed, the superhero has changed too, but these 10 games have gone through the test of time.
10 – The Amazing Spider-Man – 2012 (PS3, 360, Wii, Vita and PC)
The cinematographic adaptations, it’s always scary. We had incredible turnips in the video game. On the other hand, The Amazing Spider-Man proves that it is necessary only to understand the movement of the hero. This is the funniest thing in the game. Unfortunately, the rest of the game is not up to it, but, entertaining.
9 – Spider-Man: Web of Shadows – 2008 (PS3, PS2, PSP, 360, Wii and DS)
A game that we quickly forgot, but which totally manages to make us feel like Spider-Man. There is the choice to be in the black suit or the red suit, both having their particularities. A ton of Marvel characters are in the game and the bosses are memorable. The encounter with Wolverine is epic and changes the rest of the game!
8 – Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions – 2010 (PS3, 360 and PC)
A game where we change the playability across the dimensions. 4 different Spider-Man. Amazing Spider-Man, Black Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man and 2099 Spider-Man. Ambitious! Apart from some bugs and some levels a little more boring, it’s a great experience.
7 – Spider-Man: The Movie – 2002 (PS2, Xbox, Gamecube and PC)
Once again the movement was well executed and it is one of the best film adaptations of Spider-Man. We follow the events of the film and the fight is very satisfying. In addition, the narration of the game was done by Bruce Campbell! Still!
6 – Ultimate Spider-Man – 2005 (PS2 and PC)
The game of Spider-Man with a very bd aesthetic, something that attracted me tremendously. The controls are excellent and one can also control Venom. Yes, and you feel terribly powerful in Venom. The campaign was too short, but solid.
5 – Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage – 1994 (SNES and Genesis)
This classic Genesis had a red cassette! It’s a simple beat ’em up where you can choose Spiderman or Venom. The music is provided by the band Green Jelly and more. It’s not a big game, but it’s always fun, whatever the year!
4 – Spider-Man: Mysterio’s Menace – 2001 (GBA)
Possibly one of the best Game Boy Advance games. It’s a platform game with combat. The controls are absolutely fantastic and the game is very nice for an old portable console. A little gem.
3 – Spider-Man 2 – 2004 (PS2, Xbox and Gamecube)
Based on the movie, this 2004 game was totally successful in terms of movement and gameplay in general. A complete and lively city, a ton of varied missions and things to start. We never get bored. The game is not super beautiful, but on the other hand, we have the original voice of the film!
2 – Spider-Man – 2000 (PS1)
The game that started everything for movement in the sky. Despite the limited technology, the movements are very diverse, both in combat and displacement. The story is excellent, having all the most famous characters in the series and the levels are solid. I sincerely believe that people at Insomniac have come out of this game to get inspired for the new.
1 – Marvel’s Spider-Man – 2018 (PS4)
Each game has contributed in a way to this title since it improves everything we love about the series. Walking through Manhattan has never been so fluid and enjoyable. The fight is strongly inspired by Batman but the agility of the hero makes it a better game. All this with the best story of the character in a video game.
